Russia’s war in Ukraine just past the one month mark.
Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded his ex-Soviet neighbor on Feb. 24, an unprovoked act that has led to carnage across the country. The war has displaced more than 3.7 million Ukrainians, mostly women and children.
As desperate Ukrainians flee their homes to neighboring NATO member countries — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania — Russian forces pummel the cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv and Mariupol with missiles and artillery.
Since the Kremlin’s Feb. 24. invasion, the United Nations has confirmed 1,081 civilian deaths and 1,707 injuries in Ukraine but says the real toll is likely higher, Reuters reported. Ukraine says 136 children have been killed, the agency reported.
Here is a look at some of the faces and lives affected by Russia’s horrific war.
