PARIS (Reuters) – The European Union is preparing new sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and will also prepare measures against Belarus, European Commision Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said on Friday.

Dombrovskis said Russia’s attack on Ukraine was an attack against the whole European security architecture. EU leaders agreed on Thursday on a second package of measures against Russia

“We will go further, we are preparing next steps and sanctions and we will also include Belarus,” Dombrovskis told a news conference after EU finance ministers talks.

Dombrovskis also said the EU would help Ukraine financially, but the needs of the country, while “off the charts”, were now impossible to asses precisely, because of the ongoing war.
